Commons

[edit]

Hey! It might be a little late now, but I noticed you uploaded a couple of pretty good pictures to en.wikipedia.org. Have you alredy heard of commons? Its the media repository for all wikipedias in all languages. Pictures you upload there are automatically usable by many mor wikimedia projects. That makes them a lot more useful than if they are uploaded directly to en.wikipedia.org. Maybe for your next pictures :-) --Dschwen 18:52, 19 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Dschwen, I'll check it out. There are some forthcoming that might merit inclusion there that have more general interest than just one town :). Talshiarr 19:06, 19 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You should upload just about everything there really. Here images are often deleted if they are not used, and to be used they basically have to be suitable for Commons. So uploading here should really be the exception, not the rule (and exceptions should usually be fair use images). Richard001 (talk) 06:50, 2 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

POTD

Hi Talshiarr,

Just to let you know that the Featured Picture Image:Wilson's Snipe on a fencepost, central Utah.jpg is due to make an appearance as Picture of the Day on September 26, 2007. If you get a chance, you can check and improve the caption at Template:POTD/2007-09-26. Note that I changed the description to a Wilson's Snipe since Common Snipe aren't found in the U.S. apparently. howcheng {chat} 23:37, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, thanks very much! I'm honored that it made the cut to considered a PotD. I made a few changes to the caption and if any others are felt worthy I would encourage someone to add them. Talshiarr 23:58, 17 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

All I asked Was that source your commets before comming in. It's wasn;t a matter of not beileving you, or liking you. Or liking what you said. I am unsure what you mean by a silly Ariostle qoute. I think that qoute should apply to everything on wiki. I personally as you said beileve that this website is nothing more than joke and I just like to have fun with. Please do not slander anyone without first sourincg your assetions. _ coalhouse —Preceding unsigned comment added by Coalhouse (talkcontribs) 17:37, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • That's fine, but in future if you wish to dispute something you see on a discussion page that is unsourced, the solution would not be to just delete it but rather ask whoever wrote it to source it if you feel it warrants it. I would never have placed any such comment on the actual article page without a source. Also, it is not "slandering" someone to point out something they actually did. I would be curious to know why you feel this site is a joke. Your professors may take points off as you assert, but I would think it is rather lazy of anyone to simply leech info from Wikipedia for a paper, anyway. It's a good starting point for library research, not the ending point. Talshiarr 18:23, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Now that you soucred it. I can accpet that it happened. You probaly right I should brought on discussion rather than just delteing it. I think the reason I think wiki is Joke is obiouvs. I mean you say it correctly it's a good starting point for research, but it's hard to to put faith in a website that more pages devoted to Mortal Kombat characters than people who actually matter. And it way to easy to intenolly add misinformation and never get caught. (I:E Creating Havoc) and if i can do it, then who esle can? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Coalhouse (talkcontribs) 20:48, 7 October 2007 (UTC) I guess that the biggest rearson I beileve this site to be a joke is the words of Marcus Aurellis "The opion of ten thousand men if worth nothing if not one of them know what thier talking about" --Coalhouse 20:58, 7 October 2007 (UTC)--Coalhouse 20:58, 7 October 2007 (UTC)--Coalhouse 20:58, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Heh, believe it or not but I have complained about the jibberish pop culture articles taking up the space on the "Featured Article" section, but there is some good information on here that is difficult to find without running off to a large set of encyclopedias (or paying for the online ones). I tend to think of the place as more of a giant Trivial Pursuit game. While it's easy to post nonsense, it's just as easy to revert back or correct. You'd be surprised how fast junk is spotted and removed, but I wish the requirements to post at all were more strict. The posts full of nonsense tend to be the ones the fewest people would care about.Talshiarr 05:09, 8 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
